Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility is to manage a project by leading all crews and subcontractors to get the project completed safely, on time and on budget.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety:
• Responsible for overall job safety as per the safety manual for the particular job.
• Ensure that Test holes are dug where required and marked out.
• Report any damage to Utility lines to the Project Manager.
• Ensure that jobsite meets all OSHA standards including cleanliness.
• Ensure that everyone on the site is following all safety protocols – AHA’s, DRA/Toolbox Talks. Lead AHA and DRA/Toolbox meetings with the crew and Log into Procore.
• Perform Safety Observations and HECA (High Energy Control Assessments) on a Weekly basis and log into Procore.
• Ensure 811 mark out requests are called in and cleared prior to starting excavation work. Call for refreshing. Coordinate with surveyor to as built utility mark out locations. Complete internal pre-dig permit.

Productivity:

• Prior to start of new work activities, review HCSS bid cost report with Project Manager (PM) and/or Project Engineer (PE) to review crew sizes/composition, equipment and production figured in bid.
• Track actual daily productivity vs. bid productivity through Power BI. Notify PM of any variances immediately so a mitigation plan can be formulated.
• Consistently look for ways to improve productivity through revising means/methods, value engineering and/or sharing of resources between crews when possible.

Payroll and Equipment Reports:
• Submits daily time sheet each and every workday.
• Ensure accuracy of time sheets and equipment.
• HeavyJob competency preferred. Will train if necessary but it is a requirement for this position.

Scheduling:
• Lead daily plan of the day meeting each morning with crew prior to starting work.
• Coordinate all work with Sub-contractors
• Coordinate all Utility requirements with providers.
• Schedule Labor and Equipment with Project Manager and Dispatcher each day by 1:00PM for the following day.
• Submit rolling two week look ahead, updated weekly to Division Manager & General Super.
• Schedule special inspection requests with the Owner/CM in accordance with the advanced notification required per contract.
• Schedule surveyors in advance of the work & provide clear direction as to the layout needed.

Planning:
• Develop work plans for all definable features of work
• Plan out work on project four weeks in advance.
• Meet regularly with Project Manager and/or Project Engineer to review and coordinate upcoming work and needs such as equipment, material, and subcontractors.

Supervision:
• Supervises and ensures that all tasks are carried out by Foreman.
• Review all work being put in place to confirm it is in accordance with approved shop drawings and contract specifications.
• Responsible for overall quality of work.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or related field with 3 to 5 years of related experience. Prefer at least 5 years’ experience in a superintendent role on a contract with a value of $30M+.
• Experience with support of excavation, piles or sewer or wastewater treatment plants; or
• Experience in Heavy Construction (site-work, roads and bridges)
• Experience with NYS DOT preferred.
• Must be capable of meeting deadlines, self-motivated, detail oriented; have above average interpersonal skills and have excellent follow-through capability.
• Verbal and written communication skills are essential to this position.
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment; able to accurately process written documents, perform duties in a timely manner, be highly organized and able to interface; communicate effectively with company, clients and field personnel at all levels.
• Ability to thoroughly review contract plans and specifications to identify missing or conflicting information so that RFI’s may be generated.

 

Compensation: $120,000 to $150,000 annually commensurate with experience
