Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Foreman provides leadership for one or more crews on heavy civil infrastructure and transportation construction projects consisting of highway, road, bridge, civil and site work to ensure that projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget. The Foreman typically reports to the Project Superintendent or General Foreman and often works alongside other foremen of varying disciplines on one or more construction projects within a geographical region.  The Foreman is also responsible to uphold the Company vision and mission and ensure that all work is carried out safely with professionalism and high standards.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Safety

  • Ensure safe outcomes for each project or task in accordance with the SSHASP.
  • Conduct all routine safety protocols such as AHA’s and Toolbox Talks.
  • Participate in the preparation and presentation of Toolbox Talks and Safety Huddles.
  • Ensure proper assignment, training and use of PPE for all crewmembers.
  • Enter daily safety reporting in system such as Procore.
  • Review Arrowsight video footage and corrective action plans with Superintendent.
  • Conduct safety walks with safety personnel and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Promote culture of safety for the project, including subcontractors and other stakeholders present in assigned work areas.
  • Verify that Miss Utility requests are made and completed prior to ground disturbing work.
  • Confirm existence and location of all known utilities before ground-disturbing work.
  • Report and any incidents with utility lines to the Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
  • Participate in Safety Stand-Downs and root cause investigations for incidents and injuries.
  • Ensure good housekeeping and orderly storage of materials and equipment in assigned work areas and project staging areas.

 

Financial

  • Enter daily labor and equipment record for each work shift into timecard software (training will be provided).
  • Review of crew production performance with Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
  • Participate in selection of appropriate resources to ensure successful outcomes.

 

Planning and Production

  • Meet daily with Superintendent or General Foreman to review and coordinate the schedule.
  • Utilize the Plan of the Day (POD) for all operations, every day.
  • Observe the crew during the morning meeting and throughout the shift for signs of any issues that affect fitness for duty.
  • Participate in the development of weekly project look-ahead schedules.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and ensure successful and on-time completion.
  • Coordinate assigned work with subcontractors, vendors, utility owners and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Forecast equipment, materials, and other resource needs for upcoming work and coordinate with the Superintendent to ensure that scheduled activities occur as planned.
  • Ensure crew comprehension and that all safety, quality and production concerns are addressed for upcoming work.
  • Ensure that work and storage areas are neat and organized at all times and that tools, equipment and materials are properly stored and secured.

Quality Control

  • Coordinate tasks with Superintendent to ensure conformance with contact documents.
  • Coordinate with project team and 3rd party vendors for special inspections.
  • Ensure that assigned tasks are in conformance with SWPPP requirements, and undertake corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate with Superintendent to promptly implement corrective actions to address non-conforming work.
  • Ensure the quality and correctness of work for all assigned tasks (no re-work).
  • Document each day’s activities with daily journals, including photos, in the project management system (training will be provided).
  • Complete tasks to include punch list, when applicable, before moving onto the next task (no going back).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy construction (civil infrastructure, roads, bridges, cast-in-place concrete, and underground utility systems) with at least 2 years as a Foreman.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines, self-motivated, detail oriented, highly organized, and excellent follow-through capability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential to this position.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment and accurately process documents and perform duties in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with or capable of electronic document access and construction management software (will provide process-specific training).
  • Proficient with interpreting plans and specs and developing work plans and schedules.
  • Advocate for training and developing others.
  • Valid Driver’s License free from serious or frequent violations.
  • Able to obtain TWIC, DBIDs, or other similar credentials requiring a background check for access to restricted or government sites.

 

Reports to: Superintendent or General Foreman

 

Location: Northern Virginia and/or Richmond area

 

Travel Requirements: Works within an operating region that may require one-way travel distances of up to 100 miles.  Occasional overnight travel may be required.

 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
