Responsibilities

Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic to join our team in the shop. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the reliability of heavy construction equipment used in heavy highway construction and bridge rehabilitation projects. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on various construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, cranes, loaders, and other heavy machinery.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative services to ensure operational and safe equipment.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Provide recommendations for repairs and adjustments to maximize equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Log all parts used and services performed in accordance with company policies.
  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure the shop is compliant with OSHA and company standards.
  • Safely operate tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with the Shop Supervisor, equipment operators, and project teams regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
  • Assist with on-site repairs when necessary.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; technical/vocational training is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably with heavy construction equipment.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • ASE or equivalent certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Comfortable working in various shop conditions, including noise, dust, and grease exposure.
  • Must be able to work on weekends and at night when needed, sometimes with limited notice.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • A pre-employment drug screen is required. All employees are subject to random and reasonable suspicion drug testing.

Reports to: Superintendents while taking daily direction from field supervisors staff.
